4 Goodies You Should Eat For A Sharper Mind At Any Age

Staying on top of your game means feeding your brain what it needs to focus and function properly. Unfortunately, with today’s diet of fast food, soda, and sugar most brains aren’t getting what they need to function at their highest caliber.

What can you do to ensure that your brain is functioning as it should? Here are some tips for eating that will give you a sharper brain at any age.

Eat Your Berries

Berries are some of the best foods for you on the planet. Not only are they good for your body since they’re high in fiber and low in the glycemic index but they are also a very good brain food. Berries are have been linked to things like the reduce risk of Alzheimer’s and because of their high antioxidant content have been shown to reduce oxidative stress in the body.

One interesting study showed that rats had improved learning in motor skills when they ate a diet high in berries. While you’re not a rat, the benefits of berries to your brain are probably similar. The reduction of oxidative stress and the increased nutrients are sure to give your brain a boost. Go pick out your favorite berries and get to munching.

Everyone today seems to snack. Snacking has become as much a cultural habit as a personal one. Chances are you have sugary, high salt snack, or more than one, hidden away somewhere in her desk drawer.

Life Hacks suggests that you swap out these nutritionally lacking snacks for something much better for you, nuts. A diet high in nuts to have high omega-3 fatty acids and they have been shown to fill you up faster than empty calories because they are nutritionally dense.

The omega-3 fatty acids have been linked to improved cognitive function according to a recent study published in Neurology. So, instead of reaching for your potato chips reach for a can of your favorite nuts.

Dark Chocolate

I bet your mom never told you that eating chocolate was going to make you smarter, though it likely would not have since you were probably eating the sugar-laden milk or white chocolate, instead of dark chocolate. However, high quality at least 60% cacao dark chocolate really can improve brain function.

Fox News recently reported that a study out of Northumbria University found that participants who drank dark chocolate flavonoids performed better on math tests compared to those who were given beverages without chocolate flavonoids.

While I’m not sure where you will find a beverage that features chocolate flavonoids, I am pretty sure they make dark chocolate that you can buy at the store.

Bulletproof Coffee

Coconut oil is brain food and coffee improves focus and concentration, so go ahead and combine the two, this drink is amazing!

Okay, I’m going to say it one more time just so you’re really understanding it. It’s amazing!

To make bulletproof coffee, you get 100% Arabica coffee and coconut oil. You put 1 to 2 tablespoons of organic coconut oil in your hot fresh coffee and then blend it up.

This is going to create a frothy latte-like drink that warms you up from the inside and makes you feel like a fuzzy, happy, marshmallow. If you need to you can add a little bit of sweetener; like agave nectar, Splenda, or sugar. However, try on its own because it’s pretty sweet with just the coconut oil.

Why is this good for your brain?

Well, coffee has been shown to improve long-term memory, and coconut oil is a medium-chain triglyceride, which has been shown to boost memory in those who have Alzheimer’s disease. Medium chain triglycerides are also the only triglyceride that can be used directly as fuel by the brain. They don’t need to be broken down or processed for digested they just go straight to brain food. It’s pretty cool.
